Thank you for contributing to Species and Class! We have compiled a list of helpful tips for new writers. Please read this before posting for the first time.
Guidelines for Submissions:
Please submit your posts either through the comment box on the Contribute page, or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Submissions should be at least 500 words, and we will accept previously published pieces. If you need suggestions on what to write about, please refer to our topic ideas.
If you have a WordPress account, we can add you as an Author and you can submit articles without having to go through email. Please contact us for more information about this.
Guidelines for WordPress Authors:
For every WordPress post, please make sure you have done the following:
1. Byline. Please make the first line of your post, “By (insert name).”
2. Featured Image. Please always include a “Featured Image” in your post. While it is not necessary to include other photos in your article, please feel free to do so if you wish.
How to add a featured image:
When you’re writing (or editing) the post, in the right column you will see a space for Featured Images. Click.
Select “Set Featured Image” and upload a photo from your computer, or choose an image from our media library.

3. Turn Off Pingbacks. Pingbacks are alerts that show up as comments when someone is linking to your post within the site. It’s nice to be recognized, but unfortunately, they are annoying as comments. Pingbacks add extra work for us to delete them.
How to turn off pingbacks:
When you’re writing (or editing) the post, in the right column you will see “Advance Settings.” Click.
Scroll to the bottom of that list and you should see “Discussion.” Make sure “Allow Pingbacks and Trackbacks” are not checked off! (“Allow Comments” should stay checked.) If you do not see an option for “Discussion,” scroll to the top and click “Screen Options,” then check off “Discussion.”
