One of my heroes is Smedley Butler, the highest decorated soldier in the history of the US Marine Corps (USMC).

Butler recognized that War is a Racket, and gave a brilliant speech by that title. It was the basis for a short book he published, reprinted in its entirety below.

Butler warned us that war is a business. That capitalists pursue it for profit. And that Americans are sacrificed on the altar of those profits.
